The Energy of Repetition: How Thoughts Shape Our Reality

There are moments when a Reiki circle becomes more than a gathering.

Last night’s “Shift Your Brain, Change Your Energy” Reiki circle became one of those moments.

What began as a conversation about neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to rewire itself through repeated thoughts, emotions, and experiences — evolved into something much deeper: an honest reflection on the patterns we reinforce within ourselves and the conscious choice to begin shifting them.

We often hear phrases like:“Change your mindset.”“Raise your vibration.”“Manifest what you want.”---But underneath those phrases is something both spiritual and scientific.

Our brains are constantly creating and strengthening pathways based on what we repeatedly think, feel, and focus on. The more often we rehearse worry, fear, frustration, self-doubt, or emotional overwhelm, the more familiar and automatic those pathways become.

In neuroscience, there’s a phrase:“Neurons that fire together, wire together.”

In other words, repeated emotional states become practiced patterns.

And our bodies respond as well.

Thoughts and emotions trigger chemical responses throughout the nervous system. Over time, the body can become conditioned to certain emotional states — stress, anxiety, sadness, anger, urgency — even when we consciously want something different.

This is why true healing often requires more than positive thinking.

It asks us to pause long enough to become aware of the patterns we’ve been reinforcing.

It asks us to notice:What story am I repeating? What emotion am I rehearsing? What energy am I feeding?

Before entering meditation, our Reiki circle began with a simple but powerful releasing ceremony.

Participants were invited to reflect on the thoughts, fears, habits, emotions, or old narratives they felt ready to release — not with judgment, but with gratitude to remind us that even our difficult experiences teach us something.

Sometimes the patterns we’ve outgrown once protected us. Sometimes worry came from love. Sometimes control came from fear. Sometimes exhaustion came from trying to hold everything together. Acknowledging those lessons matters. But growth also asks us to recognize when something no longer serves the person we are becoming.

As we released those thoughts and intentions, the room shifted.

There was softness. There was honesty. There was permission to let go.

From there, meditation became more than relaxation. It became practice.

Practice for creating new emotional patterns. Practice for returning to calm. Practice for imagining a future not from fear, but from alignment. Practice for teaching the nervous system that peace, trust, gratitude, and joy are also states we can strengthen.

This doesn’t mean ignoring reality or pretending life is always easy. It means understanding that healing is not only about what happens to us. It is also about what we repeatedly cultivate within us.

This is the deeper connection between Neuroplasticity, mind-heart coherence, Reiki and intentional healing practices: transformation begins with what we repeatedly cultivate within ourselves.

At Good Vibrations Reiki and More, our monthly Reiki circles continue to explore the connection between science, stillness, energy, and emotional well-being — creating space not only for relaxation, but for reflection, awareness, and intentional transformation.

Sometimes the greatest shift begins simply by noticing the pattern… and choosing differently.
